Annie 2014 Release Date Is Here - Quvenzhané Wallis Sings Her Heart Out As Annie!

After a long time of waiting, we're finally reached the Annie 2014 release date, December 19, 2014, and it's expected to reach some major box office success, even after the well-publicized Sony Pictures leak that saw the movie being released before its time online by hackers.

While critics have so far been harsh to the remake of the stage classic, even before Annie 2014's release date, it was certain that young Oscar-nominated leading actress Quvenzhané Wallis would be getting some love from fans and critics alike: she's already been nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance!

Ever since her breakthrough performance as Hushpuppy in the 2012 film "Beasts of the Southern Wild," Quvenzhané Wallis has remained on the radar of Hollywood as possibly the most talented child actress at the moment - and, because of this, the Annie 2014 release date had been waited on by many.

The film is not only a remake of the classic Broadway musical, but also an update of the story: besides the obvious casting differences (in the original play and comic strip, Annie was a redhead), the story is set in modern-day Manhattan instead of the classic Depression Era take it had always had, updating even lyrics of songs that are now outdated.

It is known that critics (and members of the Academy) get to see films before they are officially shown to the rest of the world, and the Annie 2014 release date was no exception - however, unfortunately it seems that it hasn't been very well received by mainstream critics so far.

According to UT San Diego, the film is "insincere and overproduced," though they praised the young actress' performance as the major highlight of the production, saying she was fine in it (though it wasn't her best, as she was supposedly a bit "robotic"), it seems that, as a whole, the movie failed to impress.

The New York Times was more favorable in its review to Wallis' performance, along with those of Jamie Foxx, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale Cameron Diaz - but, in general, the reviewer was unimpressed with the film, calling it a "hacky, borderline-incompetent production."

However, it often happens that critically panned films become box office successes, so there's still hope for Annie 2014's release date - you can watch the film's trailer below and decide for yourself!
