Rita Moreno Movies And TV Shows: ‘West Side Story’ Legend Cast In ‘Jane The Virgin’!

For about six decades, Rita Moreno's movies and TV shows have been gracing screens all over the world, as she's been a part of classics like "Singin' in the Rain" and the film that gave her an Oscar, "West Side Story" - now, the actress will be taking up a role in the award-winning series "Jane the Virgin."

There's one more item to add to Rita Moreno's movies and TV shows, a year after the legendary musical actress received the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Screen Actors Guild, an honor her "Singin' in the Rain" co-star Debbie Reynolds got last week from her daughter, Carrie Fisher.

According to AV Club, Rita Moreno's movies and TV shows have just reached a new job, as the actress has just been cast as the paternal grandmother of title character Jane (played by Gina Rodriguez in a performance that gave the actress her very first Golden Globe win ever earlier this month).

As Just Jared Jr. reminds the world, the many Rita Moreno movies and TV shows have made the actress one of the rare people who have won at least one of all major American entertainment awards. These people are called EGOT for the initials of each of these prizes: Moreno has won at least one Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards in her long-running career.

As Variety reports, Moreno's role in The CW show based on a Venezuelan telenovela will be that of Glam-ma, the mother of Rogelio De La Vega (Jaime Camil), Jane's newly discovered father; the Moreno role will see the iconic actress playing a fiercely protective mother.

Rodriguez, the star of the show, seemed nothing short of delighted upon hearing the news, as she was home sick last Wednesday.

"Sick in bed trying absolutely every remedy to get better because guess who is playing my new grandma on #JaneTheVirgin!? Legend #RitaMoreno," she tweeted, proud that now "Jane the Virgin" would be among Rita Moreno's movies and TV shows.
