Nintendo To Discontinue TVii Service

Nintendo has announced that they are putting an end to their Nintendo TVii service starting next month. According to reports, the move was made because only few people are actually using the service.

The Japanese company revealed the news in a Miiverse message which states that the service will no longer be available starting on August 11, including its associated Miiverse community.

"After almost 3 years of finding, watching and engaging with Nintendo TVii, we will be ending the service on August 11, 2015 at 3:00pm PT. At the same time, we will be closing the Nintendo TVii Miiverse community," the announcement states.

The multinational company also thanked the fans who utilized the service and engaged in the community.

The Nintendo TVii is a Wii U television-based service that is offered for free. It enables users to search and watch shows from platforms like Amazon Instant Video, Netflix and Hulu Plus. Users can also organize their DVR-recorded shows and their live television shows. With the service, users had the opportunity to track the TV programs that they liked to view the most.

The service was only offered to certain countries. It was not launched in Europe because Nintendo believes that it is impractical to localize multiple television services to a diverse range of counties which follows different licensing system.

Nintendo TVii, which was launched in the year 2012, was regarded as one of the Nintendo Wii's most attractive features offered to users. It was first intended to transform the television experience and make it more social and vigorous.

Nintendo TVii had a good start but the outcome did not meet the expectations of the multinational company and its customers. The said product started becoming outdated after Microsoft released the Xbox One with multiple features like the television with a voice control and has HDMI outlets.

Nintendo clarified that users can still continue watching their favorite shows and movies even with the absence of the second-screen experience of Nintendo TVii.
