New Infographic Details What Happens To Your Body When Your Drink A Can Of Coca-Cola

A new infographic making the rounds on social media shows what happens to your body within an hour of drinking a single can of Coca-Cola. Popular graphic design website designtaxi posted the image yesterday. The site credits Truth Theory with being the origin of the photo. The information featured in the graphic most likely comes from this 2008 Mercola article which details almost exactly same facts. It is a fascinating look at how something as seemingly small and inconsequential as a can of coke can have a huge impact on your bodily functions and mental state.

According to the graphic, the first 10 minutes after drinking a can of coke are usually a sugar filled high courtesy of the 10 teaspoonsrflooding into your blood stream:

10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. This is 100 percent of your recommended daily intake, and the only reason you don't vomit as a result of the overwhelming sweetness is because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor.

After an additional 10 minutes, your liver reacts to the huge burst of sugar entering system by converting it into fat:

your blood sugar spikes, and your liver responds to the resulting insulin burst by turning massive amounts of sugar into fat.

By the 45 minute mark, your brain is churning out dopamine which triggers the pleasure sensors of your body. The graphic says the effect is similar to being under the influence of Heroin. Once the effect wears of though, you can expect to feel extremely sluggish and irritable, as the high from all that sugar and caffeiene dissapates.

The information is certainly something to ponder the next time you decide to grab a can of coke. To see the entire time line of events check out the full graphic on Truth Theory.
