NASA Mars 2015: 6 Recruits Isolated In Hawaii Dome To Study Mars Life Conditions – Months After Scott Kelly’s ISS Mission

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is dead serious about reaching our neighboring red planet by the 2030s, and there's currently a series of tests going through to figure out the human body's reaction to spending extended periods in space - including the NASA Mars 2015 mission.

A few months back, in a move towards NASA's Mars 2015 studies, astronaut Scott Kelly was sent on a yearlong mission to the International Space Station so scientists could study the human body's response to being in space for long periods of time - and in a similar bet, now they're working with new recruits on Earth.

According to NDTV Gadgets, the latest NASA Mars 2015 experiment recently saw the U.S. space agency sealing six individuals in a yearlong isolation program that will simulate how life would be on Mars, in a new attempt to help scientists in NASA develop a program for astronauts on the red planet.

The six people on the NASA Mars 2015 experimental group were locked inside a dome in Hawaii on August 28, where they'll remain for the next 365 days; they'll be living without food, fresh air or privacy for the next year.

Quartz reports that the chosen spot for this NASA Mars 2015 is on a rocky plane of Hawaii's Mauna Loa volcano that, 8,000 feet above sea level, is thought to be the closest thing Earth has to offer when it comes to comparisons with our red neighbor.

According to Slash Gear, the project is officially called the Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation or Hi-SEAS, and the team going through it is comprised of one German physicist, a French astrobiologist and four Americans who will go out of the compound inside a dome once a week to conduct experiments wearing space suits, and will be able to communicate with the outside world with an important delay to mimic the great distance between Earth and Mars.

The results from the NASA Mars 2015 experiment will be known within the next year.
