Nickelodeon May Revive 90's Classics Like Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, and Clarissa Explains It All

To many members of Generation Y, growing up in the 90's was defined by Nickelodeon. The network's legendary lineup of kids programming has been waxed nostalgic almost regularly for years with many pining for a return to the glory days of Legends of the Hidden Temple, Rugrats, and Pete and Pete.

Nickelodeon's president of content and development Russell Hicks acknowledged this strong desire for the network's back catalog of hits in a recent interview with Variety.

"We are looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh new way," Hicks tells the magazine.

The report states that Nick classics such as Hey Arnold!, Victorious, and a host of other 90's favorites. Variety mentions that a full, regular series revival of these shows is probably not in the works, but other formats like one-off movies or specials would definitely be considered.

Hicks says that the generation of kids who grew up watching Nick in the 90's, is now starting to have kids of their own, and many have clamored for revivals of the hits they grew up with.

"We are getting ready to bring back some of the ones they've told us multiple times they want to have brought back."

Kel Mitchell, the orange soda loving star of Kenan & Kel and Good Burger, is already confirmed to return to the network for role in their new show Game Shakers, which debuts on September 12.

Is mining the past for future hits a good strategy for Nickelodeon? Or should the network let sleeping dogs lie? What Nick classics would you like to see the network update for a modern audience?
