Colt McCoy Traded: Quarterback Sent to 49ers From Cleveland For Two Draft Picks

Last week, Colt McCoy trade rumors were swirling around Cleveland.

Now, it seems as though those rumors were true indeed as McCoy was traded from the Browns to the San Francisco 49ers for two draft picks on Monday.

According to ABC, the Browns only said they received two "undisclosed" picks for the former Oklahoma Sooner and starting quarterback.

However, The Associated Press, ascertained further information from an inside source.

"The team got a fifth- and seventh-round pick in this month's NFL draft in exchange for McCoy and Cleveland's sixth-round pick," the person familiar with the deal explained. The source chose to remain anonymous.

McCoy is just one of the 18 different quarterbacks to start for the Browns, dating back to 1999, when they were re-introduced to the NFL. The first quarterback on this never-ending assembly line was Tim Couch, who was drafted first over-all.

Due to the constant merry-go-round of quarterbacks, Cleveland has only made the playoffs one time in their 14 years in the league.

McCoy became expendable last year when the Browns used their first round pick on quarterback Brandon Weeden, who started the season opener and onward. The Browns also recently signed former starting quarterback and first round pick, Jason Campbell, to compete for the backup role.

However, McCoy won't be receiving that fresh of a start in San Francisco.

Second-year starter, Colin Kaepernick, occupies the starting role and is not likely to relinquish that position. He just finished leading his team to the Superbowl, where they lost a close game to the Baltimore Ravens.

The 49ers traded their previous starting quarterback, Alex Smith, to the Kansas City Chiefs to clear room for Kaepernick to be the clear starter.

Although some feel as though McCoy never had a fair shot at the starting job in Cleveland, the 26-year old's future does in fact lie elsewhere. After making eight starts as rookie, McCoy's record as a starter remains at 6-15.
