McDonald’s Happy Meal: UK Celebrates ‘Willie Wonka’ Author’s Birthday Giving Away Children’s Books Samples!

Roald Dahl, the British author responsible for some of the most beloved children's books of the 20th century (such as "James and the Giant Peach" and "Matilda," among many others) would have turned 99 years of age on September 13, and McDonald's Happy Meals in UK are celebrating this landmark!

Dahl passed away in 1990 after battling a blood disease, myelodysplastic syndrome, and even in death he was remembered with childish love, as he was even buried with chocolates to honor one of his most famous books, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," a fact that McDonald's Happy Meals at UK aren't going to be forgetting any time soon.

According to The Guardian, the golden arches chain has just teamed up with Dahl's estate, as well the United Kingdom's National Literacy Trust, to create the McDonald's Happy Meals in UK honoring this great author, as there will be 14 million specially created editions of 8 of Dahl's books showcasing extracts from his work.

The Mary Sue reports that each of these McDonald's Happy Meals in UK will feature samples of two of Dahl's books, including "Fantastic Mr. Fox" as well as his "Fantastic Families," all of which can be attained by millions across the European country.

"Dads like me grew up on the magic of Roald Dahl and his extraordinary characters," said Steve Hill, the marketing head at the UK franchise, speaking about the McDonald's Happy Meals UK toys, The Book Seller reports. ·Finding time for families to have fun together is all part of a trip to McDonald's, so I'm thrilled we're able to introduce the likes of Matilda, James and his Giant Peach and the wonderfully ludicrous Twits to a new generation of readers."

Of course, this is an attempt to get these classic books on children's hands to encourage a new generation of readers, taking a cue from some of the best pieces of literature for the little ones.

If you're in the land of Queen Elizabeth, it's time to get a McDonald's Happy Meal in UK!
