20th Century Fox Buys Sci-Fi Script Ascension For Director Matthew Vaughn

20th Century Fox is staying in business with the English film producer and director Matthew Vaughn, as the film studio and being one of the six major American film studios that has already worked with Matthew Vaughn on a sequel to his R-rated hit Kingsman: The Secret Service, and now, 20th Century Fox just acquired the sci-fi spec script Ascension as a possible vehicle for director.

It has been reported that 20th Century Fox took hold of Ascension in a mid-six-to-seven-figure deal. Ascension is written by Shannon Triplett, the sci-fi disaster movie plot is about a scientist who must save the Earth after gravity disappears. 20th Century Fox forms a mental image of the Ascension as a big action tentpole-type project.

However, director Matthew Vaughn hasn't been locked in the project yet, but the studio planned for Vaughn to produce and possibly direct the flick, as the director has demonstrated a natural skill for stylish, immediately appealing action sequences, and the theory of the Ascension should offer Matthew Vaughn plenty of opportunity to show off what he's got.

The studio also noticed that director Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service exceeded assumptions when the film opened this year, as it grossed $412 million, kick-starting a new franchise in the process. Matthew Vaughn is currently at work writing the sequel. But it depends on how things go with the script, and as well as to how things work out with British actor Taron Egerton's suddenly jam-packed schedule, and if things go as planned - the sequel for Kingsman: The Secret Service will start filming next spring.

Additional credits of director Matthew Vaughn went up when he teamed with Fox for X-Men: First Class, with Michael Fassbender, the American actress - Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy. Also Matthew Vaughn did huge films like the British crime thriller film - Layer Cake, Kick-Ass and Stardust. The director Vaughn recently added to his to-do list the spy thriller 'I Am Pilgrim' of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM).
