Burger King Reintroduces the 'Big King', Is It A Big Mac Copycat?

The Big King is back.

According to the Associated Press, Burger King's latest sandwich is back on the menu. According to the company, it's an addition to the permanent menu rolling out this week.

The Big King features two beef patties, a sesame bun complete with a middle bun, American cheese, iceberg lettuce, onions, pickles, and Thousand Island dressing. Sound familiar? The Big King will only be back on the menu for a limited time. According to Burger King's website, Big King has 510 calories.

The Big King is reportedly set to look a lot like the popular Big Mac made by its bigger rival McDonald's. It does not have a middle bun, a Big Mac signature, like it does now. The Big Mac is listed at 550 calories.

According to the AP, Burger King unveiled a reinvented menu that looked similar to the food McDonald's had added in recent years, such as fruit shakes, chicken snack wraps and specialty coffee drinks. Burger King has also rolled out a rib sandwich to compete with the popular McRib, as well as chicken nuggets.

Spokeswoman Lisa McComb said the company focuses on their business and customers. Scott Hume, editor of BurgerBusiness.com, notes that imitation is common in the fast-food industry.

"McDonald's clones make sense if they're popular in the marketplace," Hume said.

Hume said Burger King has also rolled out more products, such as a pulled pork sandwich. Burger King also recently introduced lower-calorie fries that it dubbed as "Satisfries." Satisfries have 20 percent fewer calories than Burger King's own fries.
