'Hotel Translyvania 2': Surprisingly Becomes Biggest Halloween Box Office Hit

"Hotel Translyvania 2" has surprisingly become a big hit at the box office weekend this Halloween despite its release a month ago. The family film by Sony reportedly raked in $325 million starting its September release.

Films this Halloween include Jack Black's "Goosebumps," Jason Blum's "Paranormal Activity" and Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak," but "Hotel Transylvania 2" amazingly beat these films in the box-office draw.

Currently at its 6th week of release, the film raked in $33.6M, reported Deadline.

Worldwide, "Hotel Transylvania 2" took $370 million worldwide since opening Sept. 25 with $48 million, according to The Wrap.

According to Rentrak senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian, "Both 'Goosebumps' and 'Hotel T 2' benefited from their Halloween-friendly themes."

"They may have been among the very few beneficiaries of this crowded and crazy pre-holiday season box-office corridor," they added.

While many question whether the "Hotel 2" is a Halloween film with its early release way before Halloween, Sony reportedly thought of Halloween.

"We knew if we could get out there early and successfully, we'd be set up all through the holiday," according to Rory Bruer, Sony Pictures president of worldwide distribution. "Now it's on its way to being one of the most beloved franchises of all time."

Critics gave "Hotel Transylvania 2" only a 51 percent positive on Rotten Tomatoes, but its "A" CinemaScore during its debut proves that its current Halloween sales are well-founded.

"Hotel Transylvania 2" features the voices of actors Adam SandlerMel BrooksSteve BuscemiSelena Gomez and Kevin James. Because of the film's current standing at the box office, it may yet become a Halloween classic. However, Genndy Tartakovsky, the series' director and series creator said he will not do a third film.

There hasn't been an announcement from Sony yet whether there will be a "Hotel Transylvania 3," but since the first two grossed nearly $685 million worldwide, it is highly likely that a third movie is on its way.
