Starbucks Drive Thru: Deaf Woman Was Served Via Sign Language By Trained Barista As Coffee Chain Broadens Accessibility Options [VIDEO]

Starbucks Coffee has turned into one of the biggest companies in the world over the past two decades, but over the years patrons with different disabilities have shown concern over lack of accessibility in some of their features - but this new Starbucks drive thru policy is about to change all that.

Rebecca King, a deaf woman from St. Augustine, Florida, recently uploaded a video on her Facebook page that ended up going viral, where she revealed that in her latest visit to the land of the Pumpkin Spice Latte through the Starbucks drive thru, a barista took her order in sign language.

It was only a few weeks back when the company announced a change in the Starbucks drive thru, saying they'd be launching screens to make ordering more relatable to patrons, but the idea of making things easier for people with hearing impairments hadn't come up during the announcement.

According to The Huffington Post, King's video of her latest Starbucks drive thru experience went viral, as the new strategy to place baristas who know sign language hadn't been announced, as the Florida resident applauded the company for its efforts to accommodate all their customers, even the ones with special needs.

The barista on the clip is Katie Wyble, a 28 year-old woman who has a "passion for sign language" from a young age.

"I think more people need to know about what we're doing because it moves customer service to a whole new level," Wyble told Action News Jax about this Starbucks drive thru service. "I hope it helps make more people aware of what they can to do serve others in their communities."

As The Independent reports, many took to social media to express their amazement at this new strategy, applauding the change from recent reports of baristas writing creepy messages to patrons.

In any case, bravo for the Starbucks drive thru initiative!

Starbucks! This is what I'm talking about! ❤️Share it away! We can change the world! :)
