Ed Sheeran, One Direction and Sam Smith Increased the British Music Industry by £4.1 Billion

Besides writing, recording and carrying out very good music, British artists give the UK economy a much-needed raise.

'Stay With Me' singer - Sam Smith, the Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire born singer-songwriter, musician, and occasional actor - Ed Sheeran, the British rock band headed by lead vocalist Chris Martin - Coldplay and London's English-Irish pop boy band - One Direction have been publicly acknowledged with helping the UK's music business became larger on a global scale, pushing in a staggering £4.1 billion to the British economy in 2014.

The market went up by 5% overall, catching up the growth of the British economy, which was 2.6% in the same period, as a given a summary in the UK Music's report.

British artists regarded in a specified way for one in seven albums sold across the globe in 2014, with a vast releases from the band behind the 'What Makes You Beautiful' hit song - One Direction and the 'A Sky Full of Stars' hitmaker - Coldplay - helped achieve the success.

Coldplay with frontman Chris Martin behind the Ghost Stories album selling 3.7 million, while Sam Smith's incredible breakthrough with the album 'In the Lonely Hour' sold 3.5 million albums across the planet.

The fourth album 'Four' of One Direction placed them in the fourth spot with album sales of 3.2 million, while the  English rock band Pink Floyd achieved 2.5 million sales with The Endless River album.

The extremely large boost by the British artists, means they now account for 13.7% of worldwide sales, that makes Britain the second-largest provider of recorded music in the world.

However, Andy Heath - the trade body's chairman, expressed opposite views that these formats have put an overwhelming control on revenues through an  "unacceptable balance of negotiating power". Andy Heath added that if it could be "diluted" then "the current growth... could improve exponentially."

But, Culture Secretary John Whittingdale, stated that, "Our artists continue to dominate the global charts and shows from the Royal Ballet and Rod Stewart to the LSO and Status Quo, sell out concerts across the globe."
