Kanye West Gives Update on New Album, 'It's like a Sonic Painting'

Kanye West may be a constant fixture in the news, but none of that talk seems to be about his new album. The rapper has been busy this year; with his new fashion venture made in collaboration with Adidas taking the lion's share of the headlines.

All the focus on Kanye's clothes mean that news on his upcoming album has been pretty slow as of late. The rapper has been teasing the project throughout the year, dropping singles like 'Only One', 'Wolves', and 'All Day' but that much asked for release date has yet to materialize.

Yesterday, the rapper finally gave some new information on the album codenamed: 'SWISH' during an interview with Los Angeles radio station Real 92.3. When asked by DJ Big Boy about the album's current state Kanye replied:

"I don't want to overly describe it or overly try to hype it up. The work is slow. I've had a while to work on it and I separated a couple of tracks - and gave them to other people like 'Four Five Seconds' to Rihanna and the joint on the Weeknd album, 'Tell Your Friends.' Said West. I've just kept working and trying to find the language that I want to use on my album. Just going in the lab every night. It's like a painting-it's like a sonic painting. And it gets better and better every week."

Back in September, West told Vanity Fair that the album may take another year to complete.

'I've been doing that [making a new album] too," he said. "That's like a sonic landscape, a two-year painting."

Kanye's friend Travis Scott had completely opposite news, telling Apple Music's Zane Lowe that the album is coming 'very soon.'

Whatever the case it looks like Kanye fans will be on high alert for the meantime.
