Stone Cold Steve Austin Talks About His Beer: The Broken Skull IPA

The beer world just got a legendary new addition to the roster of men who know their beer: Stone Cold Steve Austin. He has been seen sipping SweetWater IPA and Red Brick's Hoplanta. However, nowadays are a little different because he now has his own beer.

The Broken Skull IPA is the product of a partnership between the ex-wrestler and El Segundo Brewing Company, Beer Street Journal reported.

The beer was officially launched last November 13 and uses Citra, Chinook, and Cascade hops. As for its taste, beer lovers took to Twitter to find out more. @Ryanleb18 asked, “I wonder if it's any good. I like IPA's but they're normally kinda bitter.”

El Segundo (@ESBCBrews) replied, “Not too bitter per Steve's request! Lots of hoppy flavor, but mellow finish.”

Bleacher Report noted that Graham Forsyth (@Gdawgs619) was more straightforward and asked Steve, “How does it taste?” Steve (@SteveaustinBSR) confidently replied, “Outstanding. Lot of research went into this beer...”

At the moment, the beer is only available in California. The brewing company, however, says that it will only be for the first round and they are “working on getting to additional markets.”

Vice's Munchies was able to get up close and personal with the man behind Broken Skull IPA. When asked what the inspiration behind the beer was, Steve said that he simply wanted “a badass beer.” After 30 years of drinking light beer, and the recent popularity of craft beers, he just had to try them all out.

Steve also shared what he thinks to be the big difference between big beer and craft beer. He said of craft beers, “It is a higher alcohol content brew, so what you will find is that when you are drinking a heavier beer, you have to drink it a little bit slower.”
