Unfamiliar Mistakes While Drinking Wine That Could Affect Aroma And Flavor

Taylors, a local wine producer at Australia, has discovered that there are 80 percent of Australians drink red wine at room temperature which is said to be an unforgivable sin.

Drinking red wine while it is warm lessens its flavorful taste. Managing director of Taylors, Mitchell Taylor, has said that it is not appropriate to store and drink red wine when the climate is still warm.

"It's an issue that most wine lovers don't know is having a massive impact on their enjoyment and appreciation of wine," he added.

Drinking white wine has a different issue compared to drinking red wine. According to Taylors, drinking white wine when it is too cold can make its flavor dull, masks aroma and increase wine's acidity.

Other common mistakes encountered by drinkers unintentionally are listed as the following:

  • There are times that drinkers wouldn't allow the wine to "breathe". Giving the wine a few breaths of air that can enhance its aromas and flavor.
  • Filling wine glass up to the top is somewhat seen as bad manner but when wine glass is full it will not allow wine to breathe and be swirled.
  • Do not hold the wine glass by the bowl but make sure to use the stem, because the body heat that comes from hand will affect the wine.
  • In a bar or restaurant, avoid choosing the second cheapest wine on the menu just not to look cheap.
  • Start storing wine in cool and dark place instead of bringing it under bright light in a shop, to make it last longer.
  • Know if your wine is necessary to swirl. Wine experts might advise to swirl wine to bring out wine's aroma but there are particular wine that is not good to be swirled like the Sparkling wine.
  • Never run out of wine because it is good in moderation.
