Nate Berkus Pays Tribute to His Late Father Michael Berkus in Heartfelt Instagram Post

Nate Berkus is mourning the loss of his father Michael Berkus, who died at age 69 in his home in Villa Park, California last Friday, November 27 surrounded by his sons and wife.

“Last week my father, Michael Berkus, lost a short-lived battle with brain cancer,” the interior designer, wrote on Instagram. “He was the most generous and funny man and my stepmother and brothers are devastated.”

Nate shared and added his wedding photo to his Instagram in May 2014, he also revealed that his father is the only one who could make him laugh when he was nervous.

Michael Berkus was well known for his sense of humor, He was the founder of the National Sports Collectors Convention and and was widely recognized for his expertise in the industry.

Michael left behind his wife of 40 years, Sher Berkus, and his sons, Nate (Jeremiah), Steve (Yassi), Dan, and Bob (Kelly); Noah Vidal and Loli Perazza; his sister Vicky Berkus, and his grandchildren.

The former Nate Berkus Show hosts wedding to designer and TV personality Jeremiah Brent and was the first time a same-sex couple had married at the iconic New York Public Library.

Nate, who is Oprah Winfrey's interior design guru, wed Rachel Zoe's former assistant Jeremiah, last year in a luxe ceremony. The couple are proud parents to a daughter, Poppy, born in March, via a surrogate.

The duo just covered the October issue of Architectural Digest - along with their one-year-old daughter - in which they showed off their apartment in the lower Fifth area of New York City.

Nate was originally based in New York, while Jeremiah and his flourishing design business took off in Los Angeles.

The two were married on May 4, 2014 in Manhattan. In early 2014, they were featured in Banana Republic's "True Outfitters" ads in InStyle and Rolling Stone, among other magazines.
