Gremlins 2015: Original Star Zach Galligan Confirms Sequel, Is There A ‘Jurassic World’ Connection?

It's been 25 years since the Gremlins hit theaters all over the world for the last time in 1990, following a widely successful 1984 film - and now, in an age of remakes and reboots, the original star of the first two films, Zach Galligan, is speaking about an upcoming "Gremlins" 2015 project, and it won't be changing up the mythology!

Den of Geek recently spoke to Galligan as he gave a Q&A at the Prince Charles Cinema in London, where there's an annual screening of the 1984 film, and during that time, the actor dished a little about the "Gremlins" 2015 sequel, confirming long-standing rumors.

"It's not going to be a reboot. It will not be a remake in any way, shape or form", said Galligan about the "Gremlins" 2015 project to Movie News Guide, which still doesn't have a date. "Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade."

Galligan also shared that the plan was apparently to do something like in "Jurassic World," bringing to life a story set in the same universe but 30 years after the original one.

It seems like every few weeks there's a new remake or reboot announcement, but one writer/director out there, Columbus, isn't having any of that with his past films, and that includes information for an upcoming "Gremlins" 2015 project - understandably enough, since it can be argued that he made his entire career out of that film!

Earlier this year, Columbus had confirmed his involvement in the "Gremlins" 2015 version to Slash Film, saying that it wasn't by any means a remake of the film but rather a "reinvention," saying that he was interested in seeing something that could create an "emotional connection" to the past two films in the way J.J. Abrams has done with "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens."

Expect more news of the "Gremlins" 2015 project soon!
