Each year, mobile companies battle to create the thinnest, smartest and fastest phones. Below is a list of the Top 6 smartphones that will likely make it in the 2016 market, as reported by Tech Times.

  •  iPhone 7

First on the list is the Apple phone, which has been the standard to beat in the smartphone competition. Not much is known of the highly-anticipated smartphone apart from rumors, according to alphr. However, the expected iPhone 7 release date is September since the company has historically debuted its gadgets at the aforementioned month every year.

Some of the latest rumored iPhone 7 specs is that the smartphone will be removed of a headphone jack and a home button. It's also expected to carry the company's next A10 chipset, along with a new design, waterproof capabilities, better display and a longer battery life.

  •  Samsung Galaxy S7

Next in line is the South Korean giant, which almost usually folllows Apple when it comes to smartphones. The announcement of the next-gen phone is expected to come in February. Among the rumored Samsung Galaxy S7 specs include edged sides and a touch sensitive 3D display.

  •  Surface Phone

Details of this device is generally unknown, but if Microsoft does introduce its own line of phones in 2016, then the Lumia line could be gone for good next year, according to PC Advisor. Expected Surface Phone specs is the usual upgraded smartphone features, but probably a new innovation is in store for phone lovers since Microsoft is known for breaking boundaries with other Surface devices.

  •  LG G5

While not exactly leading the smartphone market, LG's G line has reportedly been known to sport one of the best screens. Rumored LG G5 features include a 4K screen and an iris scanner. The expected release date of the mobile is at the end of spring next year.

  •  Sony Xperia Z6

Expected Sony Xperia Z6 features include 4K screen, waterproofing and long battery life, but the highlight of it all is the camera, since Sony reportedly manufactures cameras in today's high-end devices, which includes but is not limited to the iPhone. Once the Sony Xperia Z6 arrives by September, it could reportedly become an industry leader in smartphones.

Despite all the powerful smartphones listed above, there is one thing that can put a threat to the industry, and it is Google's Project Ara, also set for launch in 2016. According to Gotta Be Mobile, the project will allow users to build and tweak features as much as they want, which could mean less new phones bought every year. Expected features include being able to update the camera, display or even the processor in the far future, without th need to completely replace the phone.
