Leonardo DiCaprio Calls 'The Revenant' Bear Rape Rumors 'Absurd'

Leonardo DiCaprio sets the record straight on the "ridiculous" rumor about him getting raped by a bear in his new film.

Entertainment Weekly reports The Revenant actor has finally spoken out during the premiere of his upcoming historical epic on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

"I have no idea where these ridiculous things come from, and what you do when you hear stuff like that," the 41-year-old actor told E! News. "It's absurd. It's absurd."

The rumor sparked when Matt Drudge published the article "Leonardo DiCaprio Raped by Bear in Fox Movie" earlier this month.

"The explicit moment from Oscar winning director Alejandro Inarritu has caused maximum controversy in early screenings," Drudge wrote. "Some in the audience escaped to the exits when the Wolf of Wall Street met the Grizzly of Yellowstone. The story of rural survivalism and revenge reaches new violent levels for a mainstream film. The bear flips Leo over and thrusts and thrusts during the explicit mauling."

After the article spread like wildfire, a Fox spokesperson released a statement to Entertainment Weekly. "As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, the bear in the film is a female who attacks Hugh Glass because she feels he might be threatening her cubs," the spokesperson wrote. "There is clearly no rape scene with a bear."

This isn't the only thing DiCaprio suffered in the making of the film, though. The Golden Globe nominee also shared earlier this week that he also ate a real bison liver and worked in a negative 40-degree temperature for the sake of the film's authenticity.

Good thing the Wolf of Wall Street actor was visited by his mother, Irmelin, who he said has "always been a great support system."

"She only came for like a week at the good times," the actor added. "We were there for nine months!"
