McDonald’s Menu Update: Fast Food Chain Begins Testing Fried Chicken McGriddle

If all goes well, McLovers can find a McGriddle inspired by chicken and waffles in various McDonald's outlets all over the country.

Presently, eleven McDonald's locations across central Ohio have started testing a Chicken McGriddle, which is a fried chicken patty in between two syrup infused pancake - the closest menu option to a McDonald chicken biscuit.

As fried chicken biscuits have been famous for quite some time, hence food experts believe that McDonald's move to create a new McGriddle is definitely a smart one.

The local food experts, who were responsible for creating the menu, reportedly tried BLT sandwich and egg - white as their ingredient before shifting to other products to make the wonder food named McGriddle.

"It's a chicken-and-waffles taste," McDonald's franchise owner Brian Mortellaro told Columbus Business First. "I just think that's something that isn't out there right now."

As of now, the restaurants, which have been chosen to participate in the test, will be running customer surveys and reactions, and not sales, to decide if the Chicken McGriddle can actually be launched across various locations in the country, according to reports from The Daily Meal.

If the testing phase goes well, then the residents of Ohio can definitely experience McGriddle this year.

"Filet-o-fish, Big Mac - both of those started with owner-operators," said Mortellaro. "We took this idea up the chain and they're letting us try it out. Personally, I love the product, so I'm hoping it'll do well."

He also went on to say that the biggest influence on the food will be customer surveys.

Mortellaro said McDonald's is doing a good job at listening to both the customers and owner-operators about what customers want - that's what drove the so-far successful launch of All Day Breakfast for Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald's Corp.

Notably, eight of the 11 McDonald's testing the product are Mortellaro's. Oye Olatoye owns two and the third is Jeff Newman's.
