Does Kate Cook For William? A Confession From The Royal Palace’s Chef

Ever wonder what it feels to work in the Royal kitchen? Carolyn Robb had been a full-time chef at Kensington Palace Kitchen for more than a decade. Robb sat with Racked.com and shared her precious memory of teaching young William to make spaghetti.

It was a lucky day for Carolyn Robb who previously worked at Cordon Bleu Cookery. The Queen's cousins, Duke and Duchess of Cloucester invited her for an interview to become their chef. Next to their house, is the home of Prince and Princes of Wales. Months after, Prince Charles and Princess Diana came for dinner and they're impressed by her cookings so much that she finally offered the job and moved to the Royal kitchen.

In her book, The Royal Touch, Prince Charles praised her after a trial dinner, saying the meals she cooked for them that evening was delicious. The Prince wrote a note to Robb, stating in exclamation, "The first course was a triumph!"

According to Robb, people assumed that lobster or caviar is on their lunch menu but that's not quite true. It's more about the fresh foods which both Charles and Diana discussed hours before meals. From Rob's vantage point, the Prince is knowledgeable about foods. He grows his own carrots and he is proud of it. Often time, he and Princess Diana would spend time at the Highgrove garden just to decide which herbs to use in the dishes. Robb also insists that people should label the Prince as being 'particular' instead of 'picky'. Robb mentions about Diana for being 'no airs and graces' as she always came for a chat in the kitchen.

On weekends, William and Harry had fun in the kitchen, learning how to cook spaghetti Bolognese. In most of the time, they didn't cook on their own but there are some recipes that they're allowed to. When the boys were 7 and 4, they often came to the kitchen and 'helped' Robb to bake meringues and cookies.

Robb is now a personal chef but she still learns a thing or two about the current Royal family members. She heard about William and Kate of not having a chef and prefer to cook and eat at the kitchen table - leading a normal life as a family. "Remember that Kate is not royal," she said. And Kate's normal background contributes to the way she makes stuff in the kitchen.
