Svenson Couple’s Midas Touch: Cheap Food But Better Pay at MOD Pizza

"Charging customers as little as possible while paying the team as much as possible."

This is MOD's Pizza concept. This is the kind of brand MOD would like to establish when it started the business in 2008. It began in Seattle when entrepreneur couple Scott and Ally Svenson were inspired by the American recession when everyone else were panicky, the couple wanted to bring a streak of positivity to customers and their staff whom they call their team members. They did their pre-work on how they can be able to create such authentic, fresh, hand-made product super fast? With the help of their smart and expert friends they were able to figure it out. The challenge came on how to make the experience uniquely different from other pizza companies. Well, after MOD launched in 2008, they were able to gain loyal customers and certain following. That was when they coined the "MOD Squad" which

which emerged helped turn MOD into a place where you want to take your family and where it feels like family. They call it MODness but it could be Svenson couple's Midas Touch.

In 1994, the Svensons founded Seattle Coffee Company in the United Kingdom after discovering a void in the gourmet coffee offerings where they went on to open 65 shops under that name and were eventually bought out by Starbucks.  See? Everything the couple touches become gold.

MOD's pizzas are made on demand using a signature handmade dough and red sauce which is made fresh daily. The menu includes 10 selections including the Caspian (mozzarella, gorgonzola, barbeque chicken, barbeque sauce, sliced red onions), the Maddox (signature red sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, mild italian sausage and crumbled meatballs), and Lucy Sunshine (mozzarella, parmesan, artichokes, garlic, w/dollops of their signature red sauce) and more. There are 20 display toppings in all and customers are welcome to customize their pizza, all while remaining at the same price point of $5.88. MOD also offers salads, hand-spun shakes, beer, wine, pizza knots and old fashioned Ding Dongs.

Named by Seattle magazine as "10 Hometown Chain Restaurants Worth Visiting," MOD Pizza is a fast-casual restaurant chain that was founded in 2008 and now has 110 locations spanning 16 states in the U.S.

"The beauty is if you can get the volumes right - which is a really important part of the equation - take care of and engage your team so that they care as much about the outcome as you do, the business has to take care of itself, and we generate great margins," Scott Svenson explained in "Mad Money," a TV show on investing stocks with Jim Cramer.
