Heads Up Meat Lovers: Two Beef Brands Recalled Over E. Coli

Remember that ground beef you snagged during the holiday grocery frenzy leading up to Christmas? It could be contaminated with a deadly bacteria. This week, the USDA issued two separate recalls for raw ground beef that tested positive for E. Coli. The first is for about 7,000 pounds of Valley Meats beef, and the second is for over 500 pounds of Scanga Meat Company beef. It's time to do a quick fridge (and freezer) check. Here's what to look for:

The Valley Meats, LLC Recall

  • Production date:  December 22, 2023
  • Distribution: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Michigan.
  • USDA Inspection Mark: "EST. 6460"
  • More information

The Scanga Meat Company Recall

  • Production date:  December 11, 2023
  • Distribution: Colorado
  • USDA Inspection Mark: "EST. 5712"
  • More information

What To Do If I Bought Recalled Beef

The good news is that the E. coli was found during routine testing, and no one has reported getting sick yet. If you purchased any affected products, toss them or swing by the store for a swap.
