‘One Direction' Most Recognized Performer at the 42nd American Music Awards 2014

'One Direction' had the best time of their career at the 42nd American Music Awards 2014 on Nov. 23, Nokia Theater, Los Angeles. Having chosen as the Favorite Pop/Rock Band of the Year Awardee, the group was so ecstatic and a member said that it was just a perfect day for them, adding further that America is already considered as their second home, CBS News reported.

The "Midnight Melodies" also placed the Favorite Pop/Rock Album Award to One Direction.

Indeed a star studded affair, the American Music Awards night also showcased the exemplary performance of acclaimed artist, proving their worth of being recognized in the music industry.

Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Beyonce Knowles were among the most triumphant during the awards, having been handed trophies for their excellence in the field. Together with One Direction are new artists Iggy Azalea and Sam Smith.

Jamie Foxx handed the Australian star's first ever award for "The New Classic." Recognized as the Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year, Azalea was greatly honored to receive the award saying that it was hip-hop which pushed her to pursue a career and try her luck in America. She said further that, "It's what helped me as a teenager to escape...Thank you so much...T.I. for believing in me."

"Genuinely from my heart, I didn't think I was going to win this. This is unreal," said Sam Smith as he emotionally accepts the American Music Award for Best Male Pop/Rock Artist award.

On the other hand, the event went high with the stunning performance of Lorde for "Yellow FlickerBeat" and Taylor Swift's rendition of her single from 1989 album, "Blank Space." The stage was rocked by her energy filled presence as she moved with force in shimmering attire.

Aired on Sunday night at ABC, the event also featured Ariana Grande on her "Break Free" performance and "I Bet My Life" for the Imagine Dragons, among others. Awardees Sam Smith and Iggy Azalea also had their share onstage.
