The US government under Obama's administration has requested help from China to help them limit or stop North Korea's capability to launch its irreparable cyber-attack. The United States have been steadfast in its commitment to make North Korea pay for the recent online attack that leaked massive amounts of internal Sony data to the public.
It was reported that the White House sought help from Beijing to help them in subverting the North Korean regime. Unfortunately, the US has received no reply from the Chinese government. However, a high ranking official from the Obama government have conveyed to the Associated Press that the United States and China have pooled over their resources about the Sony hack. The official also claimed that the Chinese government approved with the United States over the destructive nature of cyber-attacks that disrupts the norms and proper behavior in the cyberspace.
It is no longer a secret that U.S. have tried to sought assistance from the Chinese government in order to influence the North Korean regime into changing its political outlook, especially with its relation to South Korea and matters regarding nuclear tests and weapons of mass destruction.
On the other hand, the U.S. government has their own cyber-fracas to deal with the Chinese government. It is important to note that last May; the U.S. Justice Department accused five Chinese hackers in the employment by the Chinese military on accusations of stealing sensitive information from American companies. The Chinese government on the other hand has denied the allegations over the matter.
The Sony hacks was blamed by the US government to North Korea on evidence showing that the applications and tools used in the Sony attack was similar to previous attacks instigated by the North Korean government. China's ruling party newspaper published in an editorial condemning the hacker ethos. The newspaper describes "The Interview" a "vicious mocking of Kim is only a result of senseless cultural arrogance."
Insider information from the White House have reported that the US government is considering retaliatory cyber-attack against North Korean military and communication networks.
