It can't be denied nowadays that torrent and peer-to-peer sharing is already a force to be reckoned with when it comes to distribution. Excipio Consulting have release a list of the most (illegally) downloaded movies for the year 2014. The following list highlights the top five of the list.
1. The Wolf of Wall Street (30.035 million download)
The film is a biopic of Jordan Belfort. The infamous Wall Street stockbroker and founder of the firm Stratton Oakmont famous for its rampant corruption and fraud schemes. The film was directed by Martin Scorsese. It garnered five Academy Awards nomination including Best Picture.
2. Frozen (29.919 million download)
A 3D fully animated fantasy musical film from Walt Disney. The film is based on Hans Christian Andersen's "The Snow Queen". The film's OST includes "Let it Go" which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
3. RoboCop (29.879 million download)
A remake of the original 1987 film of the same title, it was directed by Josè Padiha. Joel Kinnaman stars as the eponymous hero. It also stars Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton.
4. Gravity (29.357 million download)
A science fiction thriller film directed by Alfonso Cuaron who co-wrote the films' screenplay together with his son Jonas Cuaron. The film garnered a total of 10 Academy Awards nomination winning seven including Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects.
5. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug ( 27.627 million)
This film is the second installment of The Hobbit trilogy. The film earned a worldwide gross of $958,366,855 putting it in the 25th spot for the highest grossing films of all time
