Lindsay Lohan Instagram: Troubled ‘Mean Girls’ Actress Contracts Rare Chikungunya Illness On Christmas Break [PHOTOS]

After Lindsay Lohan's Instagram account showed her having fun in a paradisiac-looking beach, now the latest news regarding the actress and singer sees Lohan with a very painful and somewhat rare tropical illness called chikungunya, which she caught recently.

It's been a tough few years for the redhead actress who first started out in show business as a child in "The Parent Trap," but over the last few months, Lindsay Lohan's Instagram and other social media have shown the actress taking a turn for the better in her everyday life - except now her health's deteriorated, though it's not her fault.

According to Yahoo News, the actress recently tweeted a post from Lindsay Lohan's Instagram account where she could be seen in a motorboat in the middle of the ocean, during the sunset of her preferred vacation spot for the Christmas holidays: the French Polynesian, where she went with longtime friend Patrick Aufdenkamp to spend her vacations.

Besides the obvious downer of seeing Lindsay Lohan's Instagram and other social media accounts with her comments about her illness, it's a terrible way to spend her vacations altogether; she just finished up a run of two months in London's West End with the play "Speed-the-Plow," and was really looking forward to relaxing for a few days with her loved ones before the year's end.

According to WebMD, the latest stint of the chikungunya virus comes from the Caribbean, though it generally allocates in tropical climate, which explains how it got to the French Polynesia, which is located fairly far from the Caribbean, down in the South Pacific Ocean. It is borne from the same mosquito as dengue fever and causes crippling joint pain, which can continue for weeks, months and even into years of chronic pain.

However, The Daily Mail reports that Lindsay Lohan's Instagram and Twitter accounts have seen the "Scary Movie 5" actress showing all kinds of strength, as she refuses to let the virus affect her holiday!
