As the full movie comes out this Friday, it's time to freshen up the memory with the official "Mortdecai" trailer, starring Johnny Depp - meanwhile, the movie's first reviews have come out a few days before, as usual, so what are critics saying about the new film?
As the "Mortdecai" trailer shows, the movie stars Tim Burton's favorite actor, Johnny Depp, playing a (quirky, as usual) art dealer in the midst of a conflict between the "Russians, the British MI5, his leggy wife and an international terrorist," where he is forced to travel the world - alongside co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, Olivia Munn, Aubrey Plaza, Tom Hardy, Oliver Platt and Jeff Goldblum.
According to The Washington Post, as it showed the "Mortdecai" trailer, the film is set to be released this Friday, January 23, in theaters across the United States, as it sees Depp chasing the thief of a lost Goya painting, all while being directed by David Koepp, who already joined forces with the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor in the 2004 Stephen King adaptation thriller "Secret Window."
However, as The Hollywood Life reports, the "Mortdecai" trailer, fun as it is, wasn't enough to give the feature film a proper foundation, as it's been reported to have deeply failed with critics before its release.
Though only 38 critics have reviewed the film so far (on the very day of its broad release), Rotten Tomatoes lists "Mortdecai" as having a 7 percent very "Rotten" score in the Tomatometer, so it's safe to say the critics aren't exactly loving the latest quirky exploit from the famous actor and Tim Burton collaborator.
USA Today's review of the film, for example, simply states that it won't go down as one of the actor's "better kooky characters."
Fans of Johnny Depp who still can't get enough of the actor can watch the "Mortdecai" trailer below and make up their own minds about whether or not to watch the film as it hits theaters today.
