Ringo Starr Zayn Malik: Former Beatle Asked About One Direction, Says ‘They’re Not Really A Band, Are They?’

Decades before Directioners all over the world had their hearts broken, the split of The Beatles, history's greatest band, did just about the same for music fans all over the world, which is why it made perfect sense for someone to ask Ringo Starr about Zayn Malik's recent departure from One Direction.

Of course, things are fairly different now than they were then, and there were definitely no social networks in the 70s where people suffering from Beatlemania would post pictures of themselves crying over their split, but it doesn't make Ringo Starr's Zayn Malik opinion.

According to Express, the interview where Ringo Starr's Zayn Malik opinion became known was a fairly rare one, as the iconic drummer spoke about his Beatles experience and even about Paul McCartney, who's set to induct him in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, in a few weeks.

Although Ringo Starr's Zayn Malik comments were what made headlines in the recent interview, the star, who has been in the music business for the past five decades, spoke mostly about his upcoming induction to the Hall of Fame, which apparently was set in motion after his Beatles band mate Paul McCartney was hanging out with some people in the business (including Nirvana and Foo Fighters star Dave Grohl) and they realized Starr wasn't a part of it - something that promptly also got Bruce Springsteen involved, according to the Irish Examiner.

It seems like everyone must chip in on what's next for One Direction, as even actor and comedian Will Ferrell was asked what he thought about Malik's departure, and he said he'd be willing to take his shoes in the band - but it's Ringo Starr's Zayn Malik opinion that's made news.

"He must have all his own good reasons for it," said Ringo Starr on Zayn Malik, according to Yahoo! News. "I don't think it will stop the band. They're not really a band are they; they're singing boys who dance. One Direction is going in another direction."
