If things hadn't gone the way they went for the Mexican-American singer, Selena Quintanilla would have turned 44 years old last April 16; however, her tragic murder exactly 20 years ago halted the singer from living a full life ... and now, Jennifer Lopez honors Selena once again, at the anniversary of her death.
In 1997, two years after the death of the "Como La Flor" singer, Jennifer Lopez honored Selena Quintanilla for the first time, playing her on the big screen to a lot of success, even being nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance.
For years, Lopez's portrayal of Quintanilla has been considered her breakout role, as she quickly rose to fame to become the icon she is today following "Selena."
Now, Entertainment Weekly reports that she's been invited to perform another Jennifer Lopez honor to Selena, as she has been confirmed to pay tribute to the iconic singer at the Billboard Latin Music Awards this year, during the Telemundo live broadcast at the end of the month, on April 30.
According to The Huffington Post, the announcement of Jennifer Lopez's honor to Selena was made earlier this week on "Al Rojo Vivo," a Spanish-language news program on Telemundo; later, the actress, singer and "American Idol" judge confirmed the news through her Twitter account and an official public statement.
"People like that don't come along every day," said J.Lo to Billboard, following the announcement of Jennifer Lopez's honor to Selena. "There is never going to be another Selena. The grace with which she handled the business, the grace with which she handled her life, the humor. Her spirit of loving what she did. Her sense of family. That's the tragedy of everything that happened and why she left such an imprint -- because she was gone way too soon."
Besides the Jennifer Lopez honor Selena performance, the Billboard Latin Music Awards will feature singers like Carlos Vives, Alejandro Sanz and Daddy Yankee.
