Andrew Cuomo Nail Salons protection comes as a contingency measures to protect the welfare of manicurist in New York. On Sunday, the governor released a statement covering emergency measures that will give safeguard nail salon workers from health hazards and wage theft.
Andrew Cuomo Nail Salons emergency measures come after New York Times published an article online "The Price Of Nice Nails" exposing nail salon's workers exploitation on Thursday. In the statement, Cuomo stated that he assigned new multiagency task force that will foresee the manicurists' position in the industry.
The said emergency measures take effect immediately to provide convenience and enhance the working conditions of the workers.
"New York state has a long history of confronting wage theft and unfair labor practices head on, and today, with the formation of this new Enforcement Task Force, we are aggressively following in that tradition," Cuomo said in a statement.
According to the contingency measures, all nail salons that will not follow the restrictions will be doomed for closure. Salons that are not following Andrew Cuomo Nail Salons new rules including those that will not pay back wages and those not registered will be closed.
According to Guardian, Andrew Cuomo Nail Salons measures, the business establishments are required to post the announcement in six languages including the most used language- Korean, Chinese and Spanish to inform the workers of their rights.
The new Enforcement Task Force will also hold salon-by-salon inspection in order to safeguard manicurists from potentially hazardous chemicals found in nail products.
Under the new Andrew Cuomo Nail Salons rule that will be permanently applied in the industry, New York Times reported that manicurists are required to wear masks and gloves to protect them from dangerous chemicals and to avoid contracting communicable diseases such as warts and fungal infections.
