Jason Statham Won't Do 'Daredevil': Did Involvement Leaks or Marvel-Hating Comments Cause the Fallout?

Some rumors can be effective for several projects, since they usually lead to free publicity. However, in the case of Jason Statham and the Netflix series 'Daredevil,' the rumors have backfired in the worst possible way.

Latino Review broke the news on Thursday, saying that the 'Crank' star is in negotiations to play Bullseye in the Marvel TV show. Unfortunately, Marvel television has just told Comic Book Resources that "there is no truth" to the rumor.

Fans of both Statham and 'Daredevil' have immediately reacted to the fallout. Bloody-Disgusting pointed to leaks as the bad guy in the story.

"He was legitimately in heavy negotiations for the role and the leak killed it," the site wrote. "Perhaps his agent saw the positive uproar and instantly upped the actor's asking fee?  Perhaps the studio spotted the same excited reaction and preemptively killed the deal out of fear of Statham's management going for more money?  Who knows.  The bottom line is that yesterday the Crank star was at the top of the list and deep in negotiations and today Marvel has moved on to other pastures."

There are also speculations that the actor's comments about Marvel movies. Statham had slammed the studio for using CGI, stunt doubles and a large budget to create action sequences. He even mentioned that his own grandmother can do the films, which he considered "not authentic."

The comments reflect a completely different side of Statham's feelings towards Marvel. The action star had previously expressed an interest in playing Daredevil in the reboot.

Statham's most recent project is the action comedy 'Spy,' which also stars Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, Rose Byrne and Morena Baccarin. In the film, he plays Rick Ford, a field agent working for the CIA. The movie premiered on June 5 and is currently in theaters worldwide.
