D.C. Transit Being Sued By A Family Of A Man Found Dead After 4 Days

A local man from D.C. died from a fatal head injury when he fell off the railings of the city's Metro station on October 2013 and now his family is suing the transit authority under negligence, since the body of their loved one wasn't discovered until 4 days.

The exact date was October 23, 2013 around 2:45 in the afternoon when the officials got a call regarding a body located at the back of the parapet wall on the Shady Grove platform level. All of the authorities in D.C. Fire and Emergency Services and even the Metro Transit police came to the area after the report was given. These were the details Philip Stewart; the Metro spokesman, gave to the press according to Liberty News Now.

Washington Post published that the lawsuit argues that if only the Metro workers were more alert and if they had come quickly to the man's need, he might have lived.

The family may have a good case here but someone who is familiar with such incident appealed and wanted to remain anonymous in the middle of this whole litigation process. According to that certain person, the 35-year old victim, Okiemute C. Whiteru was by himself and inebriated in the premise late that night when the whole incident happened. It was recorded on a surveillance video, but none of the authorities saw what happened. This could also mean that since no one saw the tape until after 4 days where investigation was made, the authorities of the D.C. Metro station couldn't be held responsible for it.

USA Today accounted that the family of the victim who is mainly his parents are asking for $25 million, including interest and cost from the transit's negligence as they failed to "timely and appropriately recognize, investigate and respond" to their beloved's body.
