Is The World Ready For A Bi-Racial Spider-man? Miles Morales Set To Star In Main 'Spider-man' Series

Amidst all the fuss over finding the perfect Peter Parker to make an appearance in 'Captain America: Civil War,' a new Spider-man has been announced to star in Marvel's main comic book series.

According to New York Daily News, the relaunch of 'Spider-man' will feature Miles Morales, the son of a Puerto Rican woman and an African-American man. The bi-racial webslinger was introduced by writer Brian Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli in 2011 and has gained popularity over the years.

The character has starred in 'Ultimate Comics: Spider-man' but Peter Parker has always headlined Marvel's main 'Spider-man' title.

"Our message has to be it's not Spider-Man with an asterisk, it's the real Spider-Man for kids of color, for adults of color and everybody else," Bendis said.

Morales even became popular enough to have fans plead Marvel to have the Bi-Racial Spider-man appear in the reboot of the superhero's films. Although the Spider-man who will be featured in 'Captain America 3' has been confirmed to be Peter Parker, Marvel did decide to give Morales the spotlight in his own comic book series.

The character's successful move to the main title will translate well for comic book readers of all races. "Many kids of color who when they were playing superheroes with their friends, their friends wouldn't let them be Batman or Superman because they don't look like those heroes but they could be Spider-Man because anyone could be under that mask," Bendis said. "But now it's true. It's meant a great deal to a great many people."

While Morales will not yet have his own full-length cinematic feature, Marvel and Sony continue to search for their Spider-man. The studios have yet to decide between Tom Holland (Sony's favorite) and Charlie Plummer (Marvel's choice).

The rebooted 'Spider-man' comic book series will be available this fall.=reporter
