With the iPhone 5, Apple introduced a new standard for its adapter connectivity, rendering all previous iPhone adapters obsolete.
The new connector on the iPhone 5 has been named Lightning, and is a technological improvement over the ports found on older Apple devices, such as the iPhone 4S, allowing for faster speeds and higher reliability.
However, the response from users have not been entirely positive over the improved connector. In fact, many people seem downright annoyed by the fact that their new phone does not plug in to their old devices anymore without the new adapter.
Depending on what kind of devices you use to plug in your phone, the need to change adapter can be either quite an easy feat, or possibly a nightmare, if you happen to have a plethora of various products needs to be replaced or adjusted to conform to the new standard.
The adapter that Apple is selling for the new connector costs $29, so if you have several devices that the iPhone plugs into, then you are looking at a substantial amount of money to replace all of them.
In some cases you might even have to replace the device itself, which would certainly add to the costs.
Another, smaller gripe, is that the adapter does not support composite video out, analog video, and "iPod Out" connections, specifically in BMWs, according to Business Insider.
