What Are The Chances Of A Back To The Future Remake? None, if Robert Zemeckis Can Help It

Do you ever wonder what a modern, updated take on Back to the Future might be like? Well director Robert Zemeckis sure doesn't. In a recent interview with the Daily Telegraph, the creator of the beloved 1985 movie and its two sequels said that there is no chance of Marty Mcfly, Doc Brown, and the famous Delorean making a comeback on the big screen, at least while he still lives and breathes.

"Oh, God no," the 63-year-old director told the Telegraph, when asked if - as one of the two rights holders to the original film, along with co-writer Bob Gale - he would ever consider signing off on a remake.

"That can't happen until both Bob and I are dead. And then I'm sure they'll do it, unless there's a way our estates can stop it.

"I mean, to me, that's outrageous. Especially since it's a good movie. It's like saying 'Let's remake Citizen Kane. Who are we going to get to play Kane?' What folly, what insanity is that? Why would anyone do that?"

Zemeckis told the newspaper that the contracts that he and co-writer Bob Gale signed with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment include a provision that gives them the final say on any Back to the Future related movies until the day they die.

The director, also known for films like Forrest Gump, Castaway, and The Polar Express, concedes that a remake would probably be a huge financial success because of its powerful brand name and likened it to this summer's smash hit reboot/sequel Jurassic World telling the paper:

"Pre-sold title, that's the reason, but can you imagine them getting skewered?"

So there you have it. Marty won't be suiting up his Nike power laces for a long time.
