Veteran musician Prince just removed all his music from all music streaming sites except Tidal. A lot of people find it ironic because it's the same day he also released a new song only on Soundcloud.
Fans won't be seeing Prince's music on Spotify and not even on the newly launched Apple music. USA Today reported that the Grammy award-winning musician decided to pull out all his catalogue from the said site but remained them under Jay-Z's streaming company called Tidal.
According to the singer's main website, his publisher worked this all out, but they are hoping that his music returns back online as well for more people to enjoy it. When asked for a comment from the singer's rep, they refused to give any more answers.
Prince however, made some explanations on his Twitter account about the issue. He said, "Spotify is co-owned by record labels, who hold 20 percent of the company's stocks." This was also found on an interview he made with The Daily Beast.
The tweet continued with the statement, "Essentially, streaming has offered labels the ability to pay themselves twice while reducing what is owed to artists..from pennies on the dollar to fractions of pennies on the dollar."
Stereogum also covered the news, and they said that it's been a while since the singer has been with Tidal. For some reason, it's the only music-streaming site that he favors with. This is where fans could have an access on his Baltimore concert called "Rally For Peace" and they could grab it for free. Although Prince has been into online music since 2010 according to The Malay Online, he got over it and just returned to releasing his music on CD.
