Chris Brown filed legal documents on Wednesday seeking to establish paternity of his daughter Royalty. The 26-year-old singer filed the documents in Houston, Texas in order to resolve custody and child support issues with the girl's mother Nia Guzman, according to an article on Tuesday by TMZ.
Brown and Guzman have been at odds over child support payments and visitations. The rapper has been paying $2,500 a month, but Guzman was seeking monthly child support of $15,000. Brown also was asking the court to set clear custody guidelines. The petition was filed in Houston where Guzman lives with the child.
Brown picked up two awards on Sunday at the BET Awards in Los Angeles and mentioned Royalty in his acceptance speech. "A lot has changed in my life. A lot of mistakes, a lot of lessons learned. Best thing I'm most thankful for is my daughter," Brown told the audience at the downtown Microsoft Theater.
Brown treated Royalty last month to a trip to Disneyland in Anaheim, California to celebrate her first birthday. It surfaced in March that Brown and former model Guzman conceived Royalty during a fling.
Brown's on-off girlfriend Karrueche Tran broke up with the Loyal singer after learning about his baby on social media. For months Brown tried to win Tran back, but the aspiring actress deflected his attempts.
Now, rumors have circulated the he rekindled his romance with Grammy winner Rihanna. She reportedly wished him good luck backstage before he performed Sunday at the BET Awards. Both Tran and Rihanna supposedly kept their distance from Brown on the red carpet to avoid a potentially awkward run-in. The singer, song-writer said that being a father has changed him for the better. "I get a chance to like look at her and you know, teach her stuff, the right path, and also be a father in my daughter's life," he adds. "Just to see the smile on her face, just to see the littlest things, it's emotional for me. So I just love that aspect of being able to be a father now."
Brown wasn't informed that he was the father of Royalty until months after she was born. When the news came to the surface, his girlfriend Karrueche Tran split with him after realizing he fathered the child while they were still a couple.
