Beyonce, Ed Sheeran And Coldplay To Headline Global Citizen Festival To Support The Anti- Poverty Concert

Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay are all performing at the Global Citizen Festival on September 26 in Central Park, New York in a bid to help end extreme poverty by 2030.

Pearl Jam also signed to play at this year's festival, which will be aired on the BBC will be handled by the film director Richard Curtis. The airing time of the concert coincides with the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The assembly of world leaders is set to tackle and announce their new strategies to fight the issue of climate change, inequality and poverty.

Curtis is preparing everything, aiming to bring people's attention to the concert.

He told Newsbeat, "In 2000 there were some millennium development goals that people like me, through my experience on Red Nose Day and Make Poverty History campaign, have been really obsessed with, which set out to do great big things in terms of health and poverty."

"They have been a really effective mechanism for extraordinary gains in those areas and these goals are coming to an end in 2015."

"They are launching a new set of goals that are much broader and include climate and justice," he added.

Although, One Direction previously said that they want to be part of changing the world for a better place, the director didn't confirm if the band would be joining the campaign, or they will be appearing a special guest in the concert, he said, "They have definitely got something to do with this whole project."

"I cannot reveal any detail about their involvement but I can say that they are absolutely excellent guys."

Curtis added, "From doing a single for us and visiting Africa for us and getting involved in this, I really hope their fans will be able to get engaged."
