Jimmy Fallon Injury Explained: ‘Tonight Show’ Host Returns To Shenanigans, Tells Finger Injury Story [VIDEO]

Though fans have known about Jimmy Fallon's injury for a while, after he had to pull out of "The Tonight Show" for a few weeks, this week marked the first time the comedian and host actually explained what happened on television - and it was actually so serious he almost lost a finger.

Jimmy Fallon's injury happened at home, in a type of accident that surprisingly happens very often: he tripped and fell in his own kitchen. However, things don't really end there, as the "SNL" alum talked about how he almost lost a finger in the terrifying experience.

According to Business Insider, last Monday saw the first time the host went into the NBC iconic show since sustaining Jimmy Fallon's injury, and he knew he owed it to fans to explain why he had been away for nearly two weeks, as he's still sporting a cast on his left hand.

Jimmy Fallon's injury happened after he tripped on a braided rug on his kitchen that his wife absolutely loves, though understandably he's not the biggest fan of the carpet that nearly cost him his finger and "can't wait to burn it to the ground," he explained on the air.

"My ring got caught on the countertop when I was going down, and stuck there and pulled my finger off," Fallon explained to the audience, Koco reports. "Apparently the odds aren't great with these things. Usually they just cut your finger off."

According to Time Magazine, unfortunately Jimmy Fallon's injury wasn't the only unfortunate hospital-related news on the "Tonight Show" set in the past few days, as Paul Higgins, Fallon's sidekick and the show's announcer, was recently hospitalized after being diagnosed with Lyme disease, a condition Olsen twin Ashley has been supposedly fighting for years.
