Details On How New York Prison Escapee David Sweat Carved His Way Out [PHOTOS]

David Sweat, a convicted killer, was able to escape from his prison cell practically every night for numerous months, as per CNN.

With his nightly escapades, David Sweat was able to find a route (which he and fellow inmate Richard Matt used to sneak out) from the prison through the maze-like tunnels and pipes beneath the Clinton Correctional Facility.

Meanwhile, the New York prison guards were unaware of Sweat's sprees at all. In fact, Sweat had a cleverly concocted plan: he would sneak out after the routine head count at 11:30pm, thinking that guards were asleep. David Sweat would always make it back to his cell just in time for the 5:30am check.

It was on June 6 when guards found David Sweat and Richard Matt missing from their prison cell during the morning rounds.

Richard Matt also had a history of escaping prison. Matt broke from Erie County jail in 1986. However, after being shot twice during his recent capture, Sweat told authorities on his hospital bed that he was the one who took the lead in this escape with Matt.

Unfortunately for Richard Matt, the police shot and killed the convicted murderer while in pursuit on June 26.

Sweat admitted that their plan to escape Clinton Correctional Facility began in January, as said by Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wiley. In the same month, Matt and Sweat were displaced into prison cells next to each other.

Not only that, Sweat was able to obtain a hacksaw from a prison tailor named Joyce Mitchell. A law enforcement officer told CNN that Mitchell was able to disguise at least six hacksaw blades by putting them in frozen hamburger meat.

Joyce Mitchell has been charged for helping the escapees. The hacksaw was what David Sweat used to make hole in his prison cell, before creating another hole in Richard Matt's cell.
