Things are finally looking up for 'Kong: Skull Island.'
The monster movie recently suffered a great loss when two of its main stars left the project. However, the film has just scored an outstanding female lead.
Deadline has reported that Brie Larson has signed on to 'Kong: Skull Island.' The young actress will join Tom Hiddleston, who has stayed with the project despite the departure of Michael Keaton and J.K. Simmons.
It has also been reported that the producers are hoping to bring Russell Crowe into the movie to fill in one of the vacated roles.
Larson is best known for playing Kate in 'United States of Tara.' She has previously appeared in 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,' '21 Jump Street' and 'Short Term 12.' Brie Larson recently starred in the Amy Schumer comedy 'Trainwreck' and is currently working on the musical comedy 'Basmati Blues.'

Although J.K Simmons and Michael Keaton did not confirm the reason for their departure, there are speculations that the stars could not commit to the unpredictable scheduling of 'Kong: Skull Island.'
On the other hand, Tom Hiddleston chose to stay with the project because he wanted to work with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts.
"Well, really it was Jordan Vogt-Roberts has such an extraordinary vision," Hiddleston said. "His story which I know he hasn't revealed to anyone yet is 'King Kong' is a King Kong movie you've never seen before."
"There are number of things, but it's more of working with Jordan particularly, his idea is amazing and the story and the script and the studio so yeah, it's a very easy yes," he adds.
'Kong: Skull Island' is expected to be a King Kong prequel, and will focus on the giant ape's origin story. The film will introduce a team of explorers who enter the island and find the king of apes.
'Skull Island' is scheduled for release on March 10, 2017.
