‘Gambit’ to Film This Fall, Casting Descriptions Reveal Character Details

Whereas the first of next year's X-Men spin-offs, Deadpool, is a relatively modestly budgeted affair, the second sounds like it will be anything but. We're talking about the Gambit movie, which will see Channing Tatum in the title role, and Rupert Wyatt directing. It's set for release on October 7th 2016, and a few more details have sprung up. Additionally, the film's casting call reveals more about the traits of some of the film's characters.

Among the many roles are requests for several male and female characters of different age ranges and ethnicities, with personalities ranging from soulful and sensitive to charming and dangerous. Some of the roles require the actor to speak fluent French. Here are just a few of the roles that Gambit is reportedly looking to cast:

  • Louis- Male, any ethnicity, 40s-50s. Elegant and intelligent. An appealing entrepreneur with an unexpected dark side.

  • Vera- Female, any ethnicity, mid 20s - early 30s. Beautiful, smart, tough, fiery and unpredictable

  • Nonna-Female, any ethnicity, mid 20s - 30 years old. Uptight, corporate, vicious, sexual.

  • Clarissa- Female, mixed race, 10 - 12 years old. Ethereal and other worldly. Very expressive.

Each of the roles suggest deals for future sequels, leading to speculation over whether or not Gambit will replace Wolverine as Fox's premier standalone X-Men franchise. the film is set to wrap shooting in early December. And it has a nice and specific estimated budget of $154,975,309, the majority of which will be spent in the Louisiana area.

It looks as though Gambit will be sort of a crime movie, involving the criminal guilds that were integral to his backstory in the comics. The names don't seem familiar, but the elements are definitely in place. Gambit debuts in theaters on October 7, 2016.
