Stuart Little Set For A Remake

The first Stuart Little film was a hit seemingly out of nowhere back in 1999. Rob Minkoff, of The Lion King fame, directed the original movie, and also tackled the superior sequel in 2002. The first two films mixed live action and animation, before Stuart Little 3 went straight to disc as an animated feature in 2005.

Michael J Fox voiced the title character on all three occasions. And now we hear that a fresh take on Stuart Little is in development. Once again based on the book by E B White, Sony and Red Wagon Entertainment will again bring Stuart to the screen by mixing live action and animation. This time around, the films are set to be "more comedic".

The novel from Charlotte's Web author E.B. White spawned a three-film series the last time it went to the big screen and has seen action in the form of a small-screen animated series as well. The live-action version featured memorable performances by Geena Davis, Hugh Laurie and Michael J. Fox.

Sony and Red Wagon Entertainment are teaming up to bring the "hybrid live action/animation" film to life, and they're bringing along the first film's producer, Douglas Wick. But at the moment, all we can think about is how good those little whiskers are going to look in 4K. In terms of personnel, thus far only producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are known to be attached. We'd be surprised if any of the original cast, including Hugh Laurie, Geena Davis and Jonathan Lipnicki - return for this one.One of the paintings used as a prop for the Littles' home was the 1920s painting Sleeping Lady with Black Vase by Hungarian avant garde painter Robert Bereny, which had long been considered a lost painting.

A set designer for the film had purchased the painting at an antiques store in Pasadena California for $500 for use in the film, unaware of its provenance. In 2009, art historian Gergely Barki, while watching Stuart Little on television with his daughter, noticed the painting, and after contacting the studios was able to track down its whereabouts. In 2014, its owner sold the painting at an auction for €229,500
