Google-Twitter Partnership To Display Tweets On Google Search

Google and Twitter have announced their partnership to develop a desktop app as some tweets were already displayed on Google search results. The partnership was confirmed when the two tech companies had their exchange of tweets.

"Hey @twitter, Search party at our place. Meet us on desktop?" Google said, to which Twitter replied, "You got it, @google. We'll bring the Tweets."

The said deal started in May when Twitter and Google search agreed to display tweets on mobile search results, specifically in Android and iOS. Months later, they decided to expand their collaboration as they both agreed to move in desktops.

Back in 2009, the two tech firms have already teamed up with each other to display tweets on Google search results. During the time, Google and Bing are the ones competing for the best search engine to find tweets.

However, the said deal ended in 2011 when Ali Rowghani, Twitter COO decided that he wanted to have more control in the user content of his website. After the incident, Twitter then started to experience decline and drop in terms of their application use.

With the current partnership, the social media platform will most likely have the most benefits. The contract can help Twitter users increase their follower base by having the Google search platform. With search engine as a companion, the site will also have a great advantage compared to other social media networks that can help boost engagement.

During the first announcement of the deal last May, Ardan Arac, Google's Senior Product Manager stated that the partnership is a great way to acquire first-hand and real time information especially when something very significant is happening in a certain place.

"We've extended this to desktop now too, and in English everywhere," Arac said in an update.

If a user searches for recent tweets of the President Obama from his Twitter account, Google search will display his tweets near the top of the page, below some few news articles.
