Flowers Foods Now Owns the California Region of Sara Lee

Flowers Foods now owns Sara Lee. According to the Flowers Foods website, back in October of 2012, Flowers announced that the United States Department of Justice had approved the agreement along with a separate one for the acquisition of the perpetual, exclusive, and royalty-free license to the Earthgrains brand for fresh bakery products in the Oklahoma City, Okla., market area. This week the company also closed the deal on the California region. Flowers Foods is quite glad they obtained the California region because it adds approximately 14.5 million people access to their brand. Flowers Foods is based out of Georgia and supplies food stores with baked goods. They also control about 44 bakeries across the United States.

Flowers Foods is well known for their baked breads, Sara Lee is known for satisfying customer's sweet tooth. The company produces cheesecakes, pies, cakes and pound cakes. They can be found at your local grocery store in the frozen desserts department. Their headquarters are based out of Chicago, Illinois. Flowers did a great thing by acquiring the Sara Lee name; it is well known and to some can instantly put an image of a cherry cheesecake in their minds. They are lacking in the social media department of marketing their brand and keeping in contact with their fans and avid consumers. They have a little over 75,000 Facebook fans and just about 8,000 followers on Twitter. These are not terrible numbers and the company does post daily tweets and facebook posts however they are not where they should be.  A brand that large should have at least 100,000 Facebook fans; it is all about knowing who your primary demographic is and posting things your fans will like. Their posts only receive a few comments and likes. Hopefully, Flowers Foods can keep up the delicious taste of the Sara Lee desserts and obtain a couple of more social media fans.
