Wes Craven Death: 'Scream' TV Series To Pay Tribute To Director In Season Finale

The world is still in shock following the death of horror legend Wes Craven due to brain cancer. The creator of 'The Nightmare on Elm Street' has never confirmed any of his health problems in public, and quietly passed away on Sunday at the age of 76.

His fellow producers behind the MTV series 'Scream,' which is based on the horror franchise created by Craven, were also devastated by the loss. Executive producer Jill Blotevogel recently spoke to TVLine and expressed her sadness.

"Everyone on the show is kind of stunned," Blotevogel said. "We were sucker-punched, and I know the world feels the same way, because he didn't make his health issues public. I'm still a little sad."

Jill Blotevogel also confirmed that the show will pay tribute to the director.

"It feels pretty natural [to honor him]," Blotevogel said. "The 'Scream' finale would be nothing, it wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Wes. I'm sure there will be a moment-of-silence element to it. I'm not sure exactly what form it will take yet."

Wes Craven made his directorial debut with the controversial 1972 film 'The Last House on the Left,' which was remade in 2009. He is known for working on cult classics like 'The Hills Have Eyes,' 'Swamp Thing,' 'The Serpent and the Rainbow' and 'The People Under the Stairs.'

In 1996, Craven released the first 'Scream' movie, which was partly based on the real-life Gainesville Ripper. The film was an instant hit that spawned three more films, the last of which was released in 2011. 'Scream 4' was the last film Wes Craven directed before his death.

The 'Scream' TV series follows the film's storyline, where teenagers investigate a series of brutal murders. The show stars Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, John Karna and Amadeus Serafini. The season finale will air on MTV on September 1.
