Nestle, Coca Cola Trying to Decrease Obesity

According to Centers For Disease and Control Center, child obesity has more than doubled within the last 30 years and adult obesity has tripled. In 2010 more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese.

Children suffering from obesity were usually not taught about nutrition from their parents. In modern society, both parents usually work which can make it difficult to cook healthy meals for their children. Many Americans often turn to fast food or quick frozen which are often high in sodium, sugar and fat.

There are a few major companies hoping to decrease the percentage of obesity; one of them being Nestle. Nestle is one the nation's leading chocolate company that has dedicated a part of their website to helping people lose weight and make a lifestyle change. When someone logs on to their website they are not bombarded with images of chocolates; nor do they experience advertisements plastered in their face. What they get is a company that is trying to get people to alter their lifestyle. They supply bottled water, breakfast cereal that is made with whole grain and 10 vitamins and minerals.

They are aiding in fighting obesity by selling products that are healthier for the body along with giving consumers free recipes, tips and even created a video explaining how they created a new model between the traditional food and pharmacy industries and we aim to shape a different approach to disease prevention and management.

Kraft is also trying to help fight obesity. They said they created 5000 healthier alternative products since 2005, either by improving the recipe that was already on the market or by launching new ones. Coca-Cola, one of the leading soft drink brands claims they decreased about 9% of the calories in their drinks in order to help stop obesity.

It is quite positive to see that huge companies are trying their best to stop a global issue. Nestle has basically altered a part of their brand in order to do so. Their name does not just revolve around chocolate anymore, it promotes health and waist friendly products.
