FBI Keeping An Eye on Nevada's Burning Man Festival

FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) has admitted that they have been gathering intelligence report about the annual Burning Man Festival in Black Rock Desert in Nevada.

To give heed to the 2012 Freedom of Information Act, the Special Events Management unit of the security service has kept files on festival-goers, known as 'burners' - to 'aid in the prevention of terrorist activities and intelligence collection'.

On a certain occasion, the FBI said that their involvement was "even more critical in the light of the ongoing war on terrorism and the potential for additional acts of terrorism being committed in the United States."

On hindsight FBI warns,'The greatest known threat in this event is crowd control issues and use of illegal drugs by participants.'

This concern is already being addressed by the bureau.Their LA office has coordinated with the Perishing County Sheriff's office and other law enforcement agencies to ensure peace and order within the area during the festivities and handle intelligence

The Burning Man festival is a week-long annual event that started in the Baker Beach of San Francisco in 1986 but was moved to the Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada. The festival is a gathering scantily clad revelers, bike lovers, artists, musicians who are into "free expression." This counter cultural festivities has for its climax at the end of the week long celebration, the burning of a wooden effigy.

Actress Susan Sarandon was at the event last year, she said, "It's fabulous," "I went all around on a Segway and a bicycle, which was great, and even though people sometimes recognized me and said, 'Oh, it's so cool you're here!' it wasn't like walking the streets of New York. The art was amazing. You'll find fantastical stuff like four-story women, and when the light comes up, a half-naked woman with a parasol. Despite the fact that there was more of a police presence there, it was a lot of fun and I'd definitely go back."
